The Martian is about astronaut Mark Watney. He and his team embark on a mission to Mars. An unexpected storm hits the landing site. The team makes their way back to the getaway ship while Watney is left behind, presumed dead. The book is about Watney’s day to day life being stuck on Mars. You get to read about the struggles he’s forced to endure and whether or not he overcomes them. You also get a parallel view from the people back on Earth who are in charge of bringing Watney home.My favorite parts of the book are the scenes that take place on Earth. While Watney is struggling for everyday survival, the works at NASA are working day and night to figure out a solution to bring him home. If you love books about survival, or books with comedic characters this book is great. There’s also  a lot of science and math terms used in the book. Watney is a positive character, usually, and is also very funny. The Martian is incredibly entertaining, with great characters and a dynamic plot.
