I just finished reading Surrender by Sonya Hartnett. It is a beautifully written, lyrical book, but it is so dark and slightly disturbing. This is one of those books that is weird and creepy, yet beautiful and touching at the same time. I love those. This story (without giving away the twist ending) describes the way a young boy, Anwar, copes with living with two abusive parents in a town that has outcast them. Yet the town itself is going crazy due to attacks by an arsonist who terrorizes people by setting random blazes. The only stability that Anwar finds in this situation is through a mysterious friend who is at once a relief from the madness as well as the cause of it. This is definitely A fantastic book!
