I really want to recommend Suck It Up by Brian Meehl. This book is about a vampire kid, Morning McCobb, that isn’t really what one would expect about a vampire. He is awkward and very skinny and he doesn’t even drink blood. He drinks a blood substitute and he doesn’t like to be like everyone else. He goes to the International Vampire League, a.k.a. the IV League and when he graduates, the principal of the school asks him to be kind of like his lab rat. He wants him to come out to the world as a vampire. At first, he’s afraid but later he decides to do it anyway. He goes through bumps on the way to “coming out”. Sometimes he gets over them, other times he doesn’t. Also, there are two groups of vampires, blood suckers and culture suckers. The IV Leaguers are culture suckers meaning that they feed off of human culture and the other is pretty obvious. The blood suckers have “Commandments” that the IV Leaguers do not go by. Blood suckers want to remain hidden and when they find out that Morning is coming out to the world, they want to kill him. However, there is a pact that they made with each other not to war with either group. But still, there is a blood sucker that desperately wants to kill him but he gets stuck in a serious problem. He also meets a girl, Portia. She’s the daughter of the Public Relations Manager that the school principal got Morning to help him come out to the world. Portia and morning butt heads at first, but then they start to understand each other. Suck It Up is a funny, suspenseful, and just everything book. It’s fun to read it. You won’t want to put the book down. It’s a definite page-turner. This book is not your average vampire book, but you’ll have to read it to find out what really happens.
